The Galatasaray team won the Turkish Premier League title for the 24th time with a 3-1 victory over Konyaspor today, Sunday, in the last 38th round, thus ending the season with a 3-point lead over its rival, Fenerbahce, who is in second place, and who has not won the league for a decade.

Galatasaray won the title for the second year in a row.

Argentine striker Mauro Icardi scored two goals, and Berkan Kutlu, the Swiss-born Turkish midfielder, added a third goal for Galatasaray, sparking celebrations from the team’s fans in Istanbul and abroad.

The two Istanbul teams, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, imposed their superiority over the rest of the league teams this season. Galatasaray finished the season with 102 points, while Fenerbahce finished with 99 points after their last match today witnessed a 6-0 victory over Istanbulspor.

They were followed by Trabzonspor in third place with 67 points after defeating Ankaragucu 4-2 today.

Galatasaray suffered only two losses in the league this season, including a defeat at home to Fenerbahce one week ago, which postponed its coronation until the final round.

Galatasaray scored a total of 92 goals and conceded 26 goals in the league this season.

As for Fenerbahce, they suffered one defeat in the league but tied 6 times, while Galatasaray tied 3 times.

Icardi won the top scorer list in the league with 24 goals, 3 goals ahead of Bosnian Edin Dzeko, Fenerbahce striker.
