Russia announced the downing of about 60 drones and several missiles over its territory on Sunday night, and Ukraine in turn said it had destroyed more than 30 Russian drones, while Russia continues its offensive in war-torn northeastern Ukraine.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Sunday morning that Russian air defenses shot down 57 Ukrainian drones over the Krasnodar region in the south of the country on Saturday night.

Local military officials said that drone debris struck an oil refinery in the town of Slavyansk, but without causing a fire or damage.

Nine long-range ballistic missiles and a drone were destroyed over the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula, following the massive Ukrainian drone attack on Friday morning, which cut power to the city of Sevastopol.

Three other drones were also shot down over the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine.

According to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, the church roof caught fire due to falling drone debris, but there were no casualties.

In Ukraine, air force officials said its defenses shot down all 37 Russian drones launched at it overnight.

In the northeastern Kharkiv region, where Moscow recently launched a new offensive, the region’s governor, Oleh Sinyhopov, said Sunday morning that one person had been killed and 11 wounded as a result of the previous day’s bombing.

Ukrainian forces continue their attempts to stop the Russian advance in the Kharkiv region, which began late last week.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday, during a visit to China, that the attack launched by Moscow in the Kharkiv region aims to create a buffer zone, but there are no plans to control the city.
